| transit forum for Raleigh/Wake Co. last week |
[Jul. 2nd, 2008|12:06 pm] |
The Transit forum on the future of public transportation last week was very informative and interesting. I would have done a write up about it the next day, but I went to Dallas for the weekend for work. (Story of my life).
If you are interested and did not get to go, wral has live footage of the event on the internet so you can watch.
http://www.wral.com/news/local/video/3113921/
I thought the speakers were very cool, especially the portion by Keith Parker about Charlotte's transportation system. Everyone said it wouldn't work there either, and their trains and buses and park and ride lots are full now! |

oh, right, implicating themselves. yeah, too bad for us.
I think the first step to healing our nation is at least censuring Bush and Cheney. Couldn't we at least do that? I mean really shouldn't we be making it extra hard for him and his cronies to get jobs after this adminstration, lest they fuck anything else up? Except Fox News, they can all go to work at Fox News and bring it donw from the inside with their incompetence. Except they should not get paid. FOR ANYTHING.
Gah! I'm all pissed off again. |

| what am I dreaming of? |
[Jun. 4th, 2008|12:02 am] |
Now that I've almost finished landscaping (the major previously unlandscaped part) of my yard, (mayhaps there will be pictures), am getting ready to purchase my solar oven, and made cheese (feta and ricotta with more to come) what do I dream of?
Ah, this amazing expensive bike http://www.easyracers.com/06-tour_easy.htm
And yes I want a stocking for it, and a basket/bag to carry goods, so I can cruise to the farmer's market and the grocery store in the rain and burn zee calories in the process and return with foodstuffs for eating production.
dreaming...and no, this was oddly NOT associated with meeting Sho Nuf this weekend, the 65 year old bicycler with a tricked out leopard print bike with surround sound, who doesn't have time for relationships because he is too busy partying. He is inspirational in his own way though, Sho Nuf! But this bike, I'd like to have one by the end of the year! ok, end of summer but it is spendy and I also dream of other things too, like vacations.
you can check out cheese shots at ammie8's journal http://ammie8.livejournal.com/208978.html cos we really made freaking cheese!! |

Now I need to figure out how to bottle it and sell it FOR PROFIT.
Step 1- Make sauce Step 2-? Step 3-Profit!!

Anyway please to petition yer congresscritters and senators to hold him and the Cheney accountable. You can use this link if it is easier for you.

| awesome new thing I am sharing with you Aztec coffee |
[Apr. 3rd, 2008|10:29 am] |
| [ | mood |
| | bouncy | ] | I invented something. I call it "Aztec coffee".
It is very simple, when I grind up my coffee beans, I add a cinnamon stick to the grinder. Then when I put the ground cinnamon and coffee into the coffee basket, I put about a tbsp. of cocoa powder on top. When it brews, umm yum. It is not sweet at all, but spicy choco delish! it has a very subtle flavor.
This is not to be confused with real Aztec coffee, where they boil the coffee and water in a clay pot (not unlike Turkish coffee, except the Turkish way is with a little metal pot), or chocoffee where you put a packet of hot chocolate into your coffee.
Not much is going on for me except too much work, and Jay and I installed our rain barrell yesterday. woop woop. nothing to see here. |

| weekend weekend weekend |
[Mar. 25th, 2008|01:00 pm] |
I can't stop thinking about the weekend. Last weekend was nice, a bit longer because I took off part of GF. Went yardsaling Sat, got all the stuff I had on my list. Mostly camping stuff. Stuff for camping THIS weekend. I'm so excited I can barely contain myself.
Yardsaling is fun because it is kind of a gamble whether or not you will find the things you need. I did. Anyway, the cutest of things I got was this adorable copper kettle. It was quite ugly when I got it but with much scrubbing, it is beautiful, and it still had the original "Old Dutch" label inside, so I think it was never used. It cleaned up quite nicely.
And with yardsaling, some of your items come with stories. For example, I got the "over the fire camp grill" I wanted from some lesbians who were breaking up. Now I'll never forget those lesbians, I'll remember them every time I go camping and grill stuff. I'll say "Remember those angry breaking-up lesbians?" and I'll laugh.
I also got a sun tea pitcher I have been looking for, a dough blade for baking bread, another camp chair, a rain barrel, and a pot for my camping mess kit.
My lil copper pot for camping tea for two
On Sunday, I spent the afternoon clearing the overgrown bushes from my backyard. That is some serious work. I still have some to do, as I am taking giant overgrown juniper bushes and pruning them down to a nice zen-like bonsai shape. When that is finished, I get to cover the ground with "no weed plastic covering" and then ta da- crepe myrtle and butterfly bush planting.
But this weekend- CAMPING! |

Thanks, Dickie, for a terrible horrible, death filled five years. Over 3000 American soldiers dead, thousands more wounded, thousands of lives lost in Iraq and homes/businesses and lives destroyed. Our nation's reputation, destroyed.
And if I could find the fucking video, I would post it, you know the one, the one where you are informed that most of the American people are not in support of the war and you say "so?". You fucking asshole. You probably had the video removed from youtube and goggle video. why wouldn't you?
And the present you got us, for this anniversary?

You can shove it all up your rich ass, you self serving arrogant fucking prick. i hope you and your puppet prez Bushbitch rot in hell, after you get tried and executed for war crimes.
TRIED AND EXECUTED FOR WAR CRIMES. I know no one wants to touch that one with a 10 foot pole, but what better way for us to redeem ourselves as a country, than to use that type of symbolism to sacrifice YOU, Dick, to say, "We ARE SO SORRY". just something to think about. I mean, that waterboarding shit? If YOU top-level down policy dictated that crap, then, that pretty much qualifies. just saying. Maybe you should pack your bags and go into hiding now.

| WAKEUP SUPPORTS HIGHER IMPACT FEES FOR RALEIGH, ALSO FOR WATER |
[Mar. 18th, 2008|02:28 pm] |
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 18, 2008
CONTACT: Karen Rindge, Chair, WakeUP Wake County, 828-3833, (cell) 637-4271
WAKEUP SUPPORTS HIGHER IMPACT FEES FOR RALEIGH, ALSO FOR WATER
WakeUP Wake County, a citizens' nonprofit supporting quality growth management in Wake County, will speak tonight at the Raleigh City Council public hearing on impact fees. Karen Rindge, Chair of WakeUP, will comment in support of raising impact fees, and will call for transparency on cost to citizens for future water and sewer. Below is Rindge's statement:
Raleigh City Council - Public Hearing on Impact Fees Remarks of Karen Rindge Chair, WakeUP Wake County March 18, 2008
Good evening Mayor and City Council. I am Karen Rindge, Chair of WakeUP Wake County. I speak on behalf of our 400 citizen supporters who are concerned about managing rapid growth of our city, county and region. WakeUP Wake County believes that growth is good for our community, as long as it's planned for and paid for in a way that is fair to all citizens.
Impact fees was one of the issues that spurred the creation of WakeUP. Two years ago, when the City Council was considering increasing impact fees, WakeUP supported a much higher increase than was adopted. As you know from the city's data, current impact fees do not pay for the full cost of roads and parks needed for new development, and taxpayers are footing the bill to the tune of tens of millions of dollars annually! We do not believe this is fair. Tonight, we applaud the city council for your new proposal to double current impact fees to an average of $2500. While this is not as high as the recommended fee level recommended by the Duncan Report, it's a good compromise, and will help meet the costs of the impact of growth. Voters in last fall's municipal election spoke loud and clear: they believe growth should pay its fair share of the costs of growth, and they want elected leaders who will act on this. Thank you for your courage and leadership on this issue.
Given that Wake County's population will double in 20 years, we also need to look at other ways to manage and pay for growth. New growth will need more water, sewer and stormwater management, and newcomers should help pay for that. WakeUP urges the city to review impact fees on new water, wastewater and stormwater connections and charge fees in line with actual costs. We would like to know how much current citizens are paying for future water needs in their bills. The public utility should make this information transparent, study the "impact" of new buildings, and charge fees according to size of water demand. New growth and development should pay for itself and not unfairly burden existing tax and ratepayers. Florida and other places in need of water are charging these capacity fees and developers are paying them in order to build.
Raleigh and Wake County also ought to look at whether we have the adequate public facilities for new growth. The current water crisis highlights that we should grow as we are able to meet needs for water as well as for schools. Many other North Carolina municipalities have adequate public facilities ordinances, including Franklin, Orange and Union Counties. WakeUP encourages Raleigh to discuss an APFO with the county and other municipalities. Raleigh should be the leader, not the follower, in planning for a 21st Century state capital.
Thank you very much. |
